This World Whisky of the Year is a Bourbon deserves a place on your top shelf and in your glass.

The Barton 1792 Distillery has been in operation since 1874. It gets the name "1792" from the year that Kentucky became an official state in the US, and it’s also the name of one of their signature single barrel Bourbon Whiskeys. The Barton 1792 Distillery and Barton Brands are owned by Sazerac — one of America’s largest spirits companies. They control dozens of brands from low end to high end — mostly American Whiskeys and Bourbons — that are distributed around the world. The 1792 line of products are all premium, high-end Bourbons that should be in the regular rotation of your home bar.

Jim Murray can be controversial. But no one can doubt that he is not only a renowned Whisky expert with at refined palate, the annual updates to his "Jim Murray’s Whisky Bible" are also hugely influential. And a few months ago it was announced that in the 2020 edition he had given the top honor of "World Whisky of the Year" to 1792 Full Proof Kentucky Straight Bourbon — awarding it 97.5 points.

Sazerac and Barton treat the exact specifications like a state secret — as you would expect with a winner like this. But we do know it is bottled at the barrel proof strength of 62.5% ABV without chill-filtration. So, if you buy only one bottle of premium Bourbon this month, make it this one. You’ll thanks us later.

Smartass corner:
2020 is a banner year for Sazerac. Their premium Whiskeys took the top three positions in the World Whisky of the Year contest this year: 1792 Full Proof Kentucky Straight Bourbon came in 1st, William Larue Weller 125.7 Proof 2nd, and Thomas Hardy Sazerac Rye 128.8 Proof 3rd.

Ryan
Ryan,
Not impressed at all!

luke
luke,
Very good. Stands up to ice. Vanilla and spice (alcohol). Really liked it for 45 bucks 3 months ago. Now 3x price :(

Gerald
Gerald,
Vanilla, maple, caramel nose, powerful but smooth, long lasting finish

Burton
Burton,
The usual bourbon notes in spades. Also I pick up a tobacco taste in the finish. Unique. I haven't had that before!

Jeff
Jeff,
Smooth with a cube of ice. Just a touch or two will start your night out on a good note of a well charred barrel.

Philip
Philip,
Made the mistake of trying this against Elijah Craig bp c919.

Daniel
Daniel,
Definitely a great pour

Felix
Felix,
Really rally good... this bourbon is a good sipping bourbon full of flavor. Super smooth to the palate.. toasted Carmel smell, vinalla, oak, I would definitely buy again...

Kyle
Kyle,
Full flavor bourbon at high strength.

Chris
Chris,
I found this much cheaper local and I'm glad I did, I really enjoy this as an every day drink. Full taste, warm going down with nice vanilla and caramel flavors. My current favorite under $100.00

Christopher
Christopher,
Overrated, but decent. Complex, but really hot, definitely needs ice. Not an every day sipper for me. I can buy it for $45 all day any day though at any of the liquor stores in town... too pricey here.

Douglas
Douglas,
I've enjoyed 1792 FP since it was on my "New Favorites" List. Now a permanent bottle in my bar. Great nose and smooth drink.

Michael
Michael,
Complex Bourbon aroma/flavors to the second power! Decent alcohol burn, but once past this it can become a real comfortable regular. Great price for such an amazing product.

brandon

Christopher
Christopher,
Decent bourbon. I believe it's a bit over-rated, but not a bad one to have in your bar.

Matt
Matt,
Very good bourbon, but need water.

Ivan
Ivan,
I get some sweet & salty taste from this, with a bit of bitter aftertaste.

Kyle
Kyle,
7.5 Over hyped. Straight forward bourbon, very floral. Store picks are the way to go with this one.
