A special edition of this World Whisky of the Year bottled just for Flaviar… and worth every drop.

The Barton 1792 Distillery has been in operation since 1874. It gets the name "1792" from the year that Kentucky became an official state in the US, and it’s also the name of one of the their signature single barrel Bourbon Whiskies. The Barton 1792 Distillery and Barton Brands are owned by Sazerac — one of America’s largest Spirits companies. They control dozens of brands from low end to high end — mostly American Whiskies and Bourbons — that are distributed around the world. The 1792 line of products are all premium, high-end Bourbons that should be in the regular rotation of your home bar.

We have been trumpeting the praise of Sazerac Whiskies this year. They are taking all the prizes with one of their best lineups yet. We’ve been working with them for years and when we had the opportunity to partner with them for a special Flaviar bottling of their Barton 1792 Full Proof, we jumped at the opportunity.

This special bottling is the same Barton 1892 Full Proof that was declared "World Whisky of the Year" with 97.5 points. It’s been bottled at 62.5% ABV with the most minimal of filtering, but this dram is so darned smooth it feels like velvet with nothing but a single cocktail cube in the glass. It’s like drinking flavored gemstones.

Bourbon Is a ''new barrel Spirit'': One of the legal requirements for Bourbon is that it only be aged in brand new oak charred barrels.
Bourbon rules refer to manufacturing methods rather than location. Bourbon must be matured in new and charred American white oak casks for at least 2 years. If the bottle has no age statement, the Bourbon is at least 4 years old. No coloring or flavoring of any type is allowed, and the mash bill must contain at least 51% corn.
Bourbons are very high in vanilla, as American White Oak is naturally high in vanillins.
Bourbon only needs to be placed in a new oak container for a few seconds to be called Bourbon. Fresh from the still and unaged Bourbon is called a White Dog. Recently, many of the larger distillers have started packaging this harsh, clear grain spirit for sale.
